Four Astronauts Reach the Space Station in Under Eight Hours

Edulin Children’s News · Week of 4 October 2026

SpaceX Crew-13 set a speed record for a US spacecraft on 1 October.

A SpaceX Dragon capsule carrying four astronauts blasted off from Florida on Thursday 1 October and docked with the International Space Station just 7 hours and 55 minutes later. That is the fastest trip to the station ever made by a US spacecraft.

The crew of Crew-13 is NASA astronauts Jessica Watkins (the commander) and Luke Delaney (the pilot), Josh Kutryk from the Canadian Space Agency, and Sergey Teteryatnikov from Russia's space agency Roscosmos. They will live and work on the station for at least six months, doing experiments on health, plants and materials in space.

Did you know?

The station travels at about 28,000 kilometres an hour and goes around Earth roughly every 90 minutes. The crew will see about 16 sunrises every day!
