Gandhi Jayanti: A Day to Remember Peace

Edulin Children’s News · Week of 4 October 2026

2 October marked 157 years since Mahatma Gandhi was born.

On 2 October India celebrated Gandhi Jayanti, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, who was born in 1869, 157 years ago. The United Nations marks the same day as the International Day of Non-Violence.

Many schools mark the day with prayer meetings, cleanliness drives and spinning demonstrations. Gandhiji believed that problems can be solved with patience, truth and kindness instead of force.

Your turn

What is one small act of peace you can do today? Share your toy, listen without interrupting, or say sorry first.

Reported by Lakshmi, Class 6, Neem Tree School, Madurai (young reporter).
